Join Us for Worship at Open Door Church on Sunday Mornings!
Livestream Our Worship Service
As one of the only "Welcoming and Affirming" progressive churches in a five-county area, Open Door Church desires to be a safe place for all to worship without fear that they will be judged because of their beliefs, gender identity or gender expression, race, social class, or education. Because we serve such a wide geographical area, we recognize that not everyone will be able to make the trip to Murphys every Sunday! This is why we livestream our worship service every Sunday. Our services are watched by many across the nation, from Maui to Minneapolis-St. Paul to New York! No matter who you are or where you live or where you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here!

Planning a Visit to Murphys? Here's What to Expect at Open Door
We've all experienced the uncertainty of visiting church for the first time. Here are some answers to commonly asked questions, but remember, there is no better way to get to know us than to join us on a Sunday morning! You will receive a warm greeting.
Where Are You Located?
We are located at the corner of Church St. & North Algiers in Murphys, California, just one block up the hill from Main Street.
What Should I Wear?
There is no dress code! Wear whatever feels right for you. You'll notice that on any given Sunday some people dress a little more formally, others prefer much more casual clothing.
How Long Does Worship Last?
Usually about an hour, followed by coffee hour in the Social Hall where everyone is welcome!
What Kind of Service Can I Expect?
Our worship is traditional but not overly formal: a mixture of scripture, music, preaching, and prayer. Entering the sanctuary, our ushers will give you a bulletin with the order of worship. A "Connection Card" in the bulletin is provided for those who wish to share prayer requests as well as contact information, to stay informed of upcoming worship, justice advocacy, and service opportunities.
Are Children Included?
Yes! Children are a vital part of worship at Open Door. Childcare is always provided. About 15 minutes into the service during "Family Time," children are invited to come to the front of the church and sit with the pastor, to hear a brief bible story, learn a new song, or short message that relates to their young lives. At the end of "Family Time," they are invited to follow their teachers to Sunday school where they will typically work on a craft, have a snack, and be introduced to the stories of Jesus and his love, in an age-appropriate way! Parents are welcome to accompany their children during "Family Time" and Sunday School, if that makes them feel more comfortable.
Do You Offer Holy Communion?
Holy Communion (sometimes called "The Lord's Supper" or the Eucharist) is offered to all on the first Sunday of the month. In keeping with our "Open Door" approach, we also practice "Open Communion," meaning that anyone who desires to partake is welcome to do so. We use gluten free bread and an option of grape juice or wine.
What If I Have More Questions?
Please contact us by e-mail at nugget@fccmurph.org or call us at (209) 728-3141. Better yet, if you are in Murphys for in-person worship, join us for coffee hour after worship and introduce yourself. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you better.
Sunday School
Sunday School meets every Sunday at 10am, where kids explore faith through Bible stories, songs, and hands-on activities. Throughout the year, our Sunday School kids also take part in special events together, including advent programs, holiday pageants, and fun outings as a group.
